“Jen has been a wonderful addition to our community. Although she may have been nervous to start, she has become a familiar face in classes. She is committed, she works hard and she pushes herself. ...and she rallies her friends to push themselves, too! She is warm, friendly and always ready to help or crack a joke. She is not afraid to ask questions or lean on her coaches for support or advice - after all, that’s what we’re here for. Over the past year and a half I think she would agree that she has stepped out of her comfort zone numerous times, including doing her very first CrossFit competition this month! It was awesome watching her put her head down and accomplish something that she once thought was maybe scary, daunting or unfathomable. We are so proud of you, Jen! Can’t wait to see what you do next. Keep this trajectory going!”

 What brought you to CrossFit Crux? 

 I actually work right across the street and had driven by it a few times. I didn’t know anything about CrossFit but I had not been working out regularly and wanted to get into it again. So, I just decided I would check it out.  I actually booked and didn’t come to a couple of free walk-through appointments (Sorry Cindy/Marianne) because I’d chicken out but eventually I did show up.  And, it’s the best decision I’ve ever made. I can say that I found CrossFit at a relatively difficult time in my life and I was looking for something (I didn’t know what). But, once I got immersed into the CrossFit community, I knew I had found what I had been looking for.

 

What was your first impression? 
I was overwhelmed and terrified. I had never done anything like this. But at the same time, I was intrigued and impressed by the obviously very-fit and motivated members..

 

What ‘s your favourite thing about or memory at Crux?
My favourite thing about CrossFit is, hands down, the community. This community is the best. I’ve found some amazing friends through CrossFit and I’m so grateful.  I also really enjoyed the Open as it gave me a chance to meet other members I may not workout with regularly. And, it was just so much fun!

 

What is your favourite Lift/Workout?
I think my favorite lift is the snatch. As much as that might be weird, I kind of like the feeling of getting that bar overhead. It’s a real challenge. 

 What motivates you?
The people; the coaches and of course the awesome music! (Kudos to Allen who has actually gotten me into country music lol)

 Advice to someone getting started? 
Just stick with it.  No one walks into CrossFit and “gets it” right away. But with patience, you will find that you suddenly start getting some of the moves! But more than that, you’ll find a group of people who are some of the greatest I’ve ever had the privilege of knowing.  It’s literally changed my life.
