What brought you to CrossFit Crux?
I had heard about CrossFit for several years but never really understood what it was until I decided to do some research on it. After watching some CrossFit Games on YouTube from 2014 I felt it was something that I'd be willing to try. I had gone to traditional gyms in my earlier years but really liked the idea of adding Olympic weightlifting and gymnastic elements to my workouts. Additionally, Crux has the best selection of classes and time schedule!
What was your first impression? Has it changed?
I loved the coached class structure with everyone doing the same routine at their own fitness level. The environment was very welcoming and so were the other members. I’ve been a member for about three years now and not only do I feel welcomed but I really feel like I’m part of a family.
What ‘s your favourite thing about or memory at Crux?
I love taking part in the additional programs like The Grind as well as the competitions and fundraisers. They really add to the workouts and keep them challenging and fun. I really like that I am always progressing towards some goal or PR and that we celebrate these achievements.
What is your favourite Lift/Workout?
I want to say that I like the workouts that incorporate challenges unique to CrossFit like legless rope climbs or handstand push-ups but in reality, I don’t think I have a favorite workout or lift.
Instead, I tell myself that my favorite workout is the one that I suck at the most. This way I keep myself motivated to practice it more often.
What motivates you?
A lifestyle that includes fitness and good health keeps me interested in continuing CrossFit and the amazing coaches and members keep me coming to Crux.
Advice to someone getting started?
Don’t be intimidated if the CrossFit is new to you. You will learn to like it. Don’t set limits for yourself before starting. The benefits are in the journey and not the destination here.
Like anything in life, the rewards are greater if there are hard work, failure, and disappointments involved along the way. If something that can’t be done today, it can be achieved with practice and proper coaching. CrossFit will help you to get closer to your goals and you may even surprise yourself along the way.
