Member of the Month | Cheryl Manning

Cheryl is a wonderful example of how consistency, determination and hard work can really go a long way! After completing On Ramp, she has shown incredible dedication with a steady attendance over the last 4 months. With such a great work ethic, positive changes were sure to come her way, and they have! Both her conditioning and strength have increased as a result of her efforts. She is a refreshing personality to coach and to have in class among other members.

Her daugher, Payten, is also an absolute gem to have in the youth program! Most recently, I must say I am most impressed with how strong Cheryl's squat has become, and the time for her mile run! Keep up the great work, Cheryl!!!

- Coach Marianne

What brought you to CrossFit?
My goal was (and is) to get stronger; so I can run and play with my kids and my class without feeling tired, so I can go about daily activities, chores and tasks easily, and to feel good about myself in terms of improving my overall health.

I also love the loud music during the WODs.

It's also a huge help that my kids can participate in Youth Crux or wait for me when needed.

What was your first impression? Has it changed?
My first impression was like "omg, you totally can't slack off on these workouts". I still feel this way because of both the comeraderie between members, and the careful eyes and motivating support from coaches.

What’s your proudest moment at Crux?
I've had many proud moments over the last 3 months. The first was completing an RX farmer carry for 440m thanks to coaches who literally made me put away my scaled kettlebells and grab the RX weight.

Next was getting doubleunders -- I seriously thought it was some kind of magic and that it would never happen for me... I can get 29 now, and know I can only get better.
Finally, learning how to row (I couldn't seem to coordinate all the moving parts!) was huge too -- thanks to all the coaches who worked with me on it, and especially Courtney who built me up during that insane metcon row class a while back, where it finally clicked for me.

I also feel so proud each time I see my eight year old daughter working her butt off with a smile on in the Youth classes.

What are you working on now?
I really want to perfect my form across all my lifts so I can start adding weight and try more RX WODs.  I also reaaaaaallllly want to get pull ups!

What's your favourite thing about or memory at Crux?
My favourite thing about Crux is the inspiration I get from members -- be it as a partner in a WOD or by witnessing what these amazing people can do -- and the patience and pushes coaches provide every single workout. I also love how I can feel and see results from my hard work.

What motivates you?
I am motivated by the friendly competition I acknowledge during WODs, and how I feel mentally and physically after every workout.
