What brought you to Crossfit:
I had actually been a member a number of years back at the other location. I had taken a sabbatical for a few months, that turned into a few years. I was super nervous coming back. I knew I couldn't jump into Crossfit classes, but I had heard about the Sweat Angles Program and started there. It was quite a relief to have the Sweat Angles Program that was geared exactly to what I was able to do, and didn't have barbell work.
What was your first impression? Has it changed?
Coming back after a few years, I will admit that I felt a little intimidated by the barbell work. Now that is my very favourite part of any class. I love it! although some of the movements are still a little mysterious, I always know that one of our Coaches will fix my form, or tell me if I need to add or take off weight.
What’s your proudest moment at Crux?
My very favourite and proudest moment at Crossfit has the month I realized that I needed more than the 3 times per week membership structure I had. Seeing that I needed to move my membership to the unlimited pass, meant that my body was ready for more challenges! That marked a point where I tried to commit to coming in at least 5 times a week. When I don't, I actually miss it!
What are you working on now?
I have been stumped by the hanging bar exercises(toes to bar, pull ups and that sort of thing)---I am working on that now, and have goals for the summer:)
What ‘s your favourite thing about or memory at Crux?
Something that has been very important to me has been the encouragement of our Coaches here. A strong memory that has stuck with me was Coach Brandon helping me with something and saying: I am more concerned with the long term health and fitness of our athletes than their score on the board. That was so important to understand for me. That health is a long term journey and comittment. Also, it has been really awesome to be able to come with my sons and see them progress as well!
What motivates you?
I have found all of the different and every changing programming very motivating. I get bored easily and that never happens here. I have really enjoyed the additional group Programs that I have tried, like, Boot Camp, Sweat Angles (thanks Courtney!), Bar Bell Betties(So awesome!!!!), Nutritional Challenges, and the Whole Life Challenge. Sean and Cindy always seem to be adding something interesting, and that is what I need to keep accountable.
Advice to someone getting started?
The advice I would offer to someone getting started, is that we can do more that we think we can, we are stronger than we think we are; this is place and these are the people that will help us with that!
