CF 24 for Special Olympics | October 22

CF|24 is CrossFit Gyms across North America coming together on the same day to work out for 24 hours straight in support of Special Olympics Canada.

Last year Crux members got together to work out for 24 hours straight managing to help raise $5,000 for Special Olympics.. This year want to do it again but need your help!

This friendly competition doesn't cost anything to register at our end, but we ask everyone to try and get donations for the cause.   We also set up sleeping space in the front room for anyone doing the full 24 hours.

We would like to gauge the interest in running this event again this year.  Please fill out this quick poll before Friday, to let us know your intentions.

The CF24 event will run on October 22, 2016

What is CF24?
CF24 is - 1 workout, every hour on the hour, for 24 hours. All proceeds raised go to support the Special Olympics Canada foundation. Teams comprise of 3 athletes will perform a 10 minute WOD every hour on the hour for 24 consecutive hours (6 and 12 hours also available- teams of up to 6 permitted). All participating gyms will perform the WODs on the same day at the same time.

Why Special Olympics?
The ideals and foundations of Special Olympics and the CrossFit Community could not be more aligned; a spirit of inclusion, universal access to fitness and pushing yourself beyond the expectations of yourself and those around you. With that in mind, Reebok, affiliates and Special Olympics have partnered to put on an event that embraces and stretches those ideas.

What are the workouts like?
The workouts are programmed ahead of time and are meant to be challenging, but manageable. They will be comprised of a variety of metcons, lifting WODs, and some Gym vs Gym challenges to keep things fun. All participants are encouraged to scale all workouts as needed. The first rule is to have fun, while working out with some amazing people!

If you came out to the opening wod last year you will remember our friends who joined us for the first few workouts.   The energy was so great in the gym and we all had some fun.  This was an amazing day and CF24 is a cause very dear to one of our member's heart, Dan Banks.  Dan helped organize the group of special needs athletes that attended our event last year and we are grateful to have him help us out again this year.  "This is an excellent opportunity to bring awareness to people with intellectual disabilities who like us have a love for sport.  For the past 5 years I have been coaching Special Olympics basketball and softball in Aurora. The athletes that I have coached have inspired me at home, at work and at the gym. The spirit of inclusion and universal access to fitness are pillars to both Special Olympics and CrossFit; bringing the two together seems like such a natural partnership and I hope others will join me in this fun and challenging event."
